A Form of Idleness
Intrigued by the title since I do not remember when, I finally borrowed the book from the library a few days ago and took it with me to a quiet corner where I could satisfy my curiosity in tranquility and at length. And I did have a good long time alone reading it and thinking about work and laziness, obsession and ease. In Praise of Idleness and Other Essays, by Bertrand Russell, is an excellent read for someone who has second thoughts about spending a couple of minutes, once in a while, writing a blog like this. A perfect example of what idleness can be, keeping a personal blog cannot be a bad activity. On the contrary, it is a totally gratuitus action, devoid of all ulterior objectives besides the simple pleasure of writing idly about totally unimportant matters, the kind of subjects one would bring to a friendly conversation a lazy sumer evening after dinner. I have to thank the philosopher for letting me know that it is perfectly acceptable, and even comendable, to spend some time at the computer composign a text about anything to be sent nowhere and everywhere, as a song is sent to the air by someone walking it the park and singing oblivious of all other responsibilities than being happily alive.
